American Legion Auxiliary National Poppy Day

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 42 hosted National Poppy Day on Friday and Saturday, 24 - 25 May, at 525 MLK Jr Drive in Cartersville.  Members accepted donations for bright red Poppy plates to honor our Military, both Past and Present.  The Poppy is an internationally recognized symbol of the lives sacrificed in war and the hope that none died in vain.  A Poppy Honor Wall was created along MLK Jr Drive on the fence of the American Legion to honor all our Military for the Memorial Day weekend.

All donations directly support Veterans.

Our Second Annual Cooking with the Vets competition                                  on Saturday 16 March, was another great success.

We had Twelve Cooking Teams, Ten Vendors, a Live Band and Disk Jockey, a Korean War Jeep from the Savoy Auto Museum and Two Helicopters from Blue Ridge Helicopter Tours.  We conducted numerous Raffles for prizes donated by local businesses, a 50/50 drawing and sold "Be the One" coins to raise money for Veterans support.

Over five hundred people attended and sampled some of the best BBQ in the country.  Additionally, over fifty volunteers from the Cartersville JROTC , Civil Air Patrol, Sons of the American Legion, American Legion Auxillary, American Legion and the Savoy Auto Museum supported this annual event.
