                                Our Second Annual Cooking with the Vets competition                                  on Saturday 16 March, was another great success.

    

We had Twelve Cooking Teams, Ten Vendors, a Live Band and Disk Jockey, a Korean War Jeep from the Savoy Auto Museum and Two Helicopters from Blue Ridge Helicopter Tours.  We conducted numerous Raffles for prizes donated by local businesses, a 50/50 drawing and sold "Be the One" coins to raise money for Veterans support. 

Over five hundred people attended and sampled some of the best BBQ in the country.  Additionally, over fifty volunteers from the Cartersville JROTC , Civil Air Patrol, Sons of the American Legion, American Legion Auxillary, American Legion and the Savoy Auto Museum supported this annual event.  

Stay tuned for information about next year's Third Annual "Cooking with the Vets" competion scheduled for 15 March 2025.

Blue Ridge Helicopter Tours offerred rides for $50 each or 3 for $125

Judging was really serious!  We even had a Celebrity Judge.

Many Vendors offerred Food, Woodworking crafts and Ice Cream

Annual Chili Cook-Off 

The Club 42 Lounge hosted our Annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, 27 January from 3 - 7 PM.  This event raised over $3100 to benefit the Post 42 1st Annual "Welcome Home" Vets Dinner.  This was another rousing success.  Over 100 people attended and helped choose this years winners.  We had 19 competitors and gave Judge's Awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place.  Finally, a People's Choice trophy was awarded.  Fifteen Gift baskets were awarded to drawing winners.  A Great Time was had by all!

Bikers Against Child Abuse presented Post 42 with an amazing gift

to recognize our support of their efforts to prevent Child Abuse.

hosted the New Year's Eve celebration.  Over fifty members and guests rang in the New Year.

American Legion Post 42 raises $4000 for Toys for Tots.

Over twenty American Legion, American Legion Auxillary and Sons of the American Legion members helped shop for Children's toys, on 18 November.

The Cartersville Ollies was quite supportive during the Post's Shopping Spree

Veteran's Day Ceremony

11/11/2023 at 11am.

Our Veteran's Day ceremony was held in the Post 42 Meeting Room.  The Cass Junior ROTC and the Post 42 Honor Guard supported the event that was highlighted by a wonderful speech by Lewis Kent, District 7 Commander.  We had 211 attendees, for one of our largest ceremonies in recent history.  Also in attendance was Cartersville City Councilman Cary Roth (Ward 3) and reporters from the Daily Tribune News and WBHF Radio.

 

Grand Reopening Celebration

We celebrated the reopening of our Lounge immediately following our Veteran's Day Ceremony.  The celebration included short remarks, Ribbon and Cake cutting cermonies, guided historical tours and an Awards ceremony.  Lunch and refreshments were served.

The Fallen Outdoors. The Fallen Outdoors mission is to organize outdoor adventures for Veterans Past and Present.  Their aim is to connect veterans with like-minded individuals along with teaching them a skill and passion they can continue for a life time.

 The post has begun a Veterans Visitation program with local assisted living facilities.  This visitation program is about caring for veterans and ensuring they are NOT forgotten.  Our next visit will be the Fite Living Center on the first Saturday of each month at 1000.

Since our charter on October 9th, 1919 our American Legion Post has been welcoming VETERANS from all branches of our Armed Forces. Today, we continue to welcome all military personnel serving our country. Joining our Post enables you to continue serving your God, Country and Community. Our mission is to implement the goals, aspirations, dreams, peace and blessings for our country, friends and families embodied in our preamble below.
